Introducing the Opel Mokka GSE: A New Era of Performance

Opel has unveiled a groundbreaking addition to its lineup with the Mokka GSE, marking its fastest and most dynamic electric vehicle yet. This compact SUV is designed to stand out with its bold styling and enhanced performance features, making it a strong contender in the growing electric vehicle market.

Design That Commands Attention

The Mokka GSE sports a sportier aesthetic compared to the standard model, featuring black inserts on the front and rear bumpers that highlight the air intakes. The grille and side panels are adorned with GSE badging, signaling its performance-oriented identity. One of the most striking elements is the set of 20-inch alloy wheels, which have an aerodynamic design and are paired with bright yellow brake calipers that add a touch of aggression to the overall look.

Interior Upgrades for a Sporty Experience

Inside the cabin, the Mokka GSE continues to impress with several performance-focused upgrades. The front seats are wrapped in Alcantara material, offering additional support for drivers. Door inserts also feature the same high-quality finish, while a reshaped steering wheel, aluminum pedals, and white and yellow accents help distinguish this model from its more conventional siblings. The digital cockpit includes dual 10-inch screens that display unique performance graphics, providing real-time data during driving.

Power and Performance That Deliver

Under the hood, the Mokka GSE is powered by a single electric motor that delivers 278 horsepower (207 kW or 280 PS) and 345 Nm (254.5 lb-ft) of torque. These specifications are comparable to the top-tier models of its competitors, including the Abarth 600e and Alfa Romeo Junior Veloce. The front wheels are equipped with a Torsen limited-slip differential to handle the power efficiently.

Opel claims that the Mokka GSE can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in just 5.9 seconds, with a top speed capped at 200 km/h (124 mph). This makes it faster than the heavier Grandland Electric AWD model, despite having almost double the power of the standard Mokka Electric.

Enhanced Chassis and Suspension

To match its impressive power output, the Mokka GSE features a bespoke chassis setup. The suspension has been lowered by 10 mm and includes dual hydraulic shock absorbers for improved damping. The rear axle is stiffer, and the steering has been retuned for better handling. Stopping power is provided by Alcon brakes with 380 mm discs and four-piston calipers, ensuring confident braking performance.

Battery and Range Considerations

Despite the performance enhancements, the Mokka GSE uses the same 54 kWh lithium-ion battery pack found in the regular Mokka Electric. However, due to the added hardware and performance-focused components, the WLTP range is expected to be slightly lower than the standard model’s 406 km (252 miles). Nevertheless, the GSE manages to keep its weight under 1,600 kg (3,527 pounds), which is impressive for a fully electric crossover with such a high level of performance.

Future Availability and Launch Details

While specific details about the market launch and pricing of the Mokka GSE in Europe are still to be announced, it is expected to be available in the UK as well, albeit with Vauxhall branding. As the automotive industry continues to shift toward electrification, the Mokka GSE represents a bold step forward for Opel in the realm of electric performance vehicles.
