The Return of the Ram TRX: A New Era of Performance

The automotive world is buzzing with excitement as a new insider report suggests that an even more powerful version of the Ram TRX is on the way. This development marks a significant moment for fans of high-performance trucks, especially after the original 702-horsepower Ram 1500 TRX made its debut in 2021.

Ram took on the challenge of the Ford Raptor R by introducing the TRX, which quickly became a symbol of power and performance. However, due to Stellantis’s push towards lower emissions and more electrified options, the model didn’t last long. The 2024 Final Edition was the last version of the TRX before it was discontinued. At the time, the Hemi engine was also being phased out, leaving many wondering how the successor would look.

Despite these challenges, Ram has made a strong effort to regain its footing. The brand has committed to NASCAR competition, revived the Hemi V8 for the Ram 1500, and introduced new models like the Warlock and Black Express. These moves signal a renewed focus on performance and innovation.

When Will the Next TRX Arrive?

Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis recently announced that there would be 25 new product releases over the next 18 months. Since then, the brand has made several significant moves, including the revival of the Hemi V8. According to a report from Mopar Insiders, well-placed sources within the company have confirmed that the TRX will return. Production is expected to begin in late January 2026, which is just around the corner.

With many automakers already unveiling their 2026 model year updates, it's reasonable to expect an official announcement in the coming months or even weeks.

What Engine Will Power the TRX?

Following changes in Stellantis leadership, the Hemi V8 received a new lease on life. Dodge extended the production of the Durango, and Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis has ensured that the 5.7-liter V8 makes its way back into the 1500 trucks. Kuniskis is also leading the charge for the reestablished SRT (Street Racing Technology division), indicating a clear focus on performance.

The TRX previously featured a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8 under the hood, and reports suggest that the forthcoming model will be even more powerful. It's unlikely that the smaller 5.7-liter engine will take over upon the truck’s return. At its debut, the TRX delivered 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. Ford responded with the 720-horsepower Raptor R in 2025, so Ram will likely want to come out swinging this time.

What Will the TRX Look Like?

According to sources close to Mopar Insiders, the 2026 TRX will share much of the same styling and tech found on the current 2025 Ram 1500 RHO. After the TRX's 2024 discontinuation, the RHO took over as the rowdy off-roader of the 1500 lineup. With features like factory-installed Bilstein shocks, a lockable rear axle, and towering ground clearance, the RHO is competitive against the V6 Raptor. However, the Raptor R makes its little sibling look tame, so the TRX is bound to be an even more extreme version of the RHO.

How Much Will the TRX Cost?

At this stage, Ram has not officially confirmed the return of the TRX, so the exact price remains unknown. However, it's likely that the performance pickup will be a six-figure truck. When the TRX debuted in 2021, the MSRP started at $70,095, with options adding to the total. Over subsequent model years, the asking price increased, reaching $96,585 for a base TRX in 2024 and up to $119,620 for the Final Edition.

With the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO starting at $72,090, it's reasonable to expect that a more powerful and higher-spec TRX will be even more expensive. However, given that the RHO manages to undercut the V6 Raptor's $81,200 MSRP, Ram may follow suit in the case of the $112,325 Raptor R.
