Plymouth court list sees 31 men and women named and shamed
A busy week for magistrates with a plethora of cases covering all manner of offences.
As per usual there are a number of people convicted for driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. While this inevitably leads to the loss of one's driving licence as well as a fine, one person who drove with a quantity of benzoylecgonine - a metabolite of cocaine - in their blood in excess of the specified limit, appeared to escape losing their licence and instead were hit with penalty points and a fine.
Magistrates also dealt with a one-man crime wave who targeted a large number of stores across Plymouth, stealing all manner of goods, assaulted a man on Embankment Road and failed to meet with his probation worker. He was handed a suspended jail sentence but was not ordered to pay any compensation.

Three mothers were hit with large fines and court costs for failing to ensure their child or children regularly attended named schools. Magistrates imposed reporting restrictions, protecting the names of the children from publication, but in doing so also caused the mother's names to be withheld from being published.
A 17-year-old appeared in court - who cannot be named for legal reasons - who was handed a youth rehabilitation order and ordered to pay compensation to three men he assaulted in different locations around the city on different dates.
At the other end of the generational scale, magistrates dealt with a 74-year-old pensioner who evidently felt the need to expose himself in a city street with the aim of making other distressed. He was jailed.
